Description

This traditional, historic cottage is a short walk to Lake Michigan beach!

Located on Park Street near Mount Baldhead Park, this traditional, historic cottage has been recently renovated and has central air, an open concept, and hardwood floors. There are 2 bedrooms and a full bath with a tub/shower in this Saugatuck vacation rental. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker. The brick patio out the side door offers an area for sitting and barbequing on a Weber grill. Sitting or sleeping on the front porch with its two twin beds and wicker furniture is a great way to enjoy the breeze but still be bug-free. Perfect spot for morning coffee or evening cocktails. The Kalamazoo River is accessible next door at Mount Baldhead Park for fishing and Park Street is a quiet street for taking a walk.
If you have more time, explore the trails that wind past the Ox-Bow School of Art and around the Old Singapore Harbor at the mouth of the river. A walk to Oval beach through the woods is just 20 minutes or so. If you’re feeling up to a challenge, climb the 302 steps up Mt. Baldy in the park next door, make a stop at the top, and take in the view of Saugatuck and Oval Beach. Follow the dunes down to Oval Beach to enjoy Michigan white sand beaches, bask in the sun and refresh yourself in Lake Michigan.
Shops and great restaurants are a short drive to town. A fun alternative is to walk to the ferry just a few minutes down the road and take the Saugatuck Chain Ferry across to enjoy all the shopping or dining Saugatuck offers. On busy weekends you will avoid the hassle of parking in town!

Maximum capacity 6 - includes infants and children. The two twins on the sleeping porch count towards occupancy.

This is a decent place in a great location. Cute little cottage with small bedrooms (a full bed in each), has all the necessities including linens, towels, plenty of kitchen utensils/pots/pans. Could be a little cleaner and it's a little older, but we had a great stay. The quiet location is amazing near the river and Mt. Baldhead with easy access to Oval Beach. The trail up Mt. Baldy to the beach is a workout so only for the adventurous - we drove a few minutes there most days and got a season parking pass.

Comfy, convenient, well-equipped cottage In a fabulous location. Everything was just as advertised. Unit was clean and tidy, with a shiny, updated bathroom. We have been coming to the shores of Lake Michigan annually for the last 10 years. Usually we stay in Holland, but our plans this year were last-minute, so we had to find a substitute. We have loved our Holland location, but this was a great substitute, and we may do it again! The setting is lovely, with a view of Lake Kalamazoo and downtown Saugatuck just across the street. The small quiet street is charming. Crows Next walking paths just down the road. Oval Beach is on the other side of Mt. Baldy. You can go directly across Mt. Baldy, but it is really arduousfirst 300 stairs, then slogging up and down big dunes. There is an easier, 20-minute mostly flat walkhead left down Park Rd, and take the dirt road toward the artists colony, wind your way to the dunes behind the beach, on paths along Ox-Bow Lagoon. We cooked every night, and were pleasantly surprised by how well-equipped the kitchen was. Its small, but perfectly adequate for one cook to operate (too tight for more cooks in the kitchen). The sleeping porch is super-nice, and if you arent using it as a third bedroom, offers some helpful room to store things. The two, identical bedrooms are quite small. Just enough room for a full bed, a small dresser, and two people to stand and get dressed. Bathroom and living area is relatively spacious. Owner was super-prompt in returning our security deposit, which was a very fair $300. 6 sets of towels are provided, and there is no laundry, so you might want to bring a few extra--depending on your tolerance for drying in sun and re-using. The oven/range has no ventilation hood. If you arent careful, you will set off the fire alarms (on the bright side, those definitely are in good working order!). I recommend opening the window and door by the oven, and the window across from the oven, when cooking. This was enough to avoid triggering the alarms. Wifi in the unit was fine, T-Mobile cell coverage was also fine (no signal at the beach). The only grocery store in town, Supervalu, was just adequate (bear in mind, we cooked a lot). Small, limited selection, pricey. So might be worth stocking up before you arrive, or driving to Holland for a bigger grocery store, or maybe South Haven for a Wal-Mart.

We loved our stay. The cottage was neat as a pin. We enjoyed riding the chain ferry into town and found the 15-20 minute walk to the beach just fine. Was a bit surprised to find the house surrounded by other cottages, but other than a little noise by groups climbing the Mt Baldy stairs, it was quiet.

The property was great, the only suggestion I would have is to replace the sink in the bathroom. Its very hard to wash your face with extremely hot or extremely cold water since they are separate. It would be nice to have a faucet to have warm water
