The Southerner

Phil’s Bar & Grille

Perched on the waterfront, Phil’s Bar & Grille offers a variety of dishes. On the menu, you will find fresh salads, seafood, burgers, sandwiches, and more. The scenic views of the Kalamazoo River add to the charm of the restaurant.

 

Pumpernickel’s Eatery

For specialty drinks, amazing food, and brunch, check out Pumpernickel’s! Brunch is served from 9am-3pm and dinner from 4pm-9pm. On the brunch menu, you’ll find crab cake benedict, fluffy buttermilk pancakes, salads, sandwiches, and more. Going to be there for dinner? Try their pork tacos, shrimp pasta, or the surf and turf.

 

The Butler Restaurant

A Saugatuck institution, The Butler Restaurant serves up fresh seafood and American fare like their famous burger. Make sure to save room for dessert! You can’t go wrong with the house-made cinnamon roll.

The Black River Tavern

As a local favorite, the Black River Tavern serves delicious sandwiches, mouth-watering burgers, wings, nachos, and more. Pair your food with a specialty cocktail or a non-alcoholic beverage. The tavern offers views of the lighthouse and harbor while providing live entertainment. 

 

Tello Italian Bistro

For authentic Italian dishes in the heart of South Haven, make sure to try Tello Italian Bistro. On the menu, you’ll find pasta and pizza made from scratch, sandwiches, salads, and more. Make sure to save some room for dessert and try their cannoli or tiramisu!

 

Taste

It’s time to get spooky! Check out the haunting new makeover the Golden Age of Great Lakes Passenger Steamship exhibit is getting. The eerie decor is sure to get you in the Halloween spirit! 

 

Fall Festival Oct. 21st & 28th | 9am 

Head to the Kal-Haven Outpost for a spooky weekend of fun! The festival kicks off both Saturday, October 21st and 28th at 9am with the store opening and a free Witches Brew (coffee). Throughout the day there will be plenty of fall fun. There will be a costume bike parade, trunk-or-treat, a bags tournament, live music, a community bonfire, and more!

 

South Haven Boo Bash Oct. 28th | 12pm-8pm

Get ready for thrills, chills, and laughs at the Huron Street Pavillion! With food trucks, spooky crafts, music, a pet costume contest, and lots more, there will be plenty of spooky fun at the Boo Bash to get you in the Halloween spirit.

 

Glow Night in the Maze/ Trunk-or-Treat Oct. 28th | 6pm-10pm

Looking for some non-scary fun? Glow Night is the event for you! Midnight Motion Car Club will be there with their Trunk-or-Treat Car Show. There will be a non-scary corn maze, concessions including apple cider, and more!

 

Shop Til’ You Drop Around The World In SoHa Nov. 11th | 10am-6pm

Head downtown with a friend or two and hit the sales! Each participating business will highlight a country from around the world. It’ll be a great day of shopping, food, and specials.

 

Holiday in the Park Nov. 24th 

South Haven’s Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony will take place in Dyckman Park. Activities will include free photos with Santa, s’mores around the firepit, a parade, and more!

 

Hotel Nichols Murder Mystery Event Dec. 30th | 6pm

“It’s the most wonderful crime of the year”! Last year was nearly sold out so get your tickets early for the murder mystery! Hors d’Oeuvers and drinks will be served at 6pm with the mystery starting at 7pm. Tickets are $60.

 

New Year’s Eve Celebration Dec. 31st

Ring in 2024 in South Haven! Featuring ice skating, warming stations, dancing with the DJ and more, the New Year’s Eve celebration will be fun for any age! Don’t forget about the fireworks at midnight and the 1,000 beach balls that will drop in the city’s center.

Pop-Up on the Porches Oct. 21st | 1pm-5pm

Featuring local and regional artists working in various media, Pop-Up on the Porches is a great chance to enjoy original work. Artwork will be available for purchase. 

 

Halloween Candlelight Concert Oct. 26th | 7pm

For a thrilling collage of voices and instruments, you won’t want to miss this concert! Featured performers include  Bob Ruddy on the organ, the Lakeshore Community Chorus, Kristyn Boyce on the piano, and Kristie Nogeura on the violin. This event is a fundraiser for the First Congregational Church of Saugatuck.

 

Hauntings and History Nights at Felt Mansion Oct. 27th-29th | 7:00pm, 8:30pm, 10:00pm

Venture into the realm of the unknown if you dare! Journey through time as those who personally confronted the mysteries and hear about the estate’s rich history. You’ll also have the chance to explore the estate’s hidden corners during a 60 minute self-guided tour. Tickets are required. 

 

Douglas Halloween Parade for Adults Oct. 28th | 10pm

Head to Downtown Saugatuck to take in the extravaganza of creativity in costuming and performing arts. Make sure to get to downtown early to do some shopping and enjoy some music from DJ Eddie. The parade lines up at 9pm and kicks off at 10pm.

 

Winter’s Eve Market Nov. 3rd | 4:30pm-8:30pm

Stroll through the booths featuring creatives from local artists! Featuring houseware, decor, hand-crafted wearables, and more, this is a shopping experience you don’t want to miss. Make sure to grab a cocktail (if you’re of age) to sip on while shopping.

 

Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run Nov. 18th | 10:30am

Bring your dog, family, and friends for a fun run! Or if running isn’t your thing, come out to support the community, the Saugatuck Douglas Rotary, and the 2024 Saugatuck Venetian Fest.

 

Saugatuck Christmas Parade and Cookie Decorating Dec. 2nd |1pm

What better way to kickoff the holiday season than with a parade? The Christmas parade lines up in front of Wicks Park and kicks off at 1pm. After the parade, head to Santa’s Workshop to decorate some cookies!

 

Holiday Artisan Market Dec. 16th | 11am-6pm

Featuring over 15 artisans throughout the indoor patio space and tasting room, the artisan market is the perfect place to do some holiday shopping while supporting local artists and businesses!

Saugatuck/Douglas

 

Douglas Cottage (sleeps 6) will have you feeling refreshed! The kitchen is fully stocked with the basics needed to make some delicious meals. Cozy up by the fireplace and enjoy a movie night. Downtown Doulgas is about a 10 minute walk away! 

 

Douglas Woods Retreat (sleeps 10) is the peaceful destination for your getaway. Kick back and relax on the deck overlooking the backyard and forest. After a day of fun, share stories around the fire pit. Douglas is about a 10-15 minute walk and Saugatuck is a quick drive away.

 

Goshorn Lake #5 (sleeps 4) is perfect for a cozy getaway. Hang out by the fireplace for a movie night or head into town for dining and shopping. Downtown Saugatuck is about 2 miles away. If you need more space, we also manage Illustrator Cottage in the Goshorn Lake Resort.

 

Illustrator Cottage (sleeps 4) is artistically decorated and will have you feeling relaxed in no time! The cottage is about 2 miles from downtown Saugatuck giving you easy access to the shops and restaurants. If you need more space, you can rent Goshorn Lake #5 as well.

 

Sunset Bluff (sleeps 8) is a cute dog friendly cottage that overlooks Lake Michigan. The 3-season sunroom is perfect for enjoying a beverage or reading a good book. Wanting to enjoy a tasty homemade meal? The galley kitchen has all the amenities you’ll need to make it. 

 

Tall Trees (sleeps 6) is just steps away from downtown Saugatuck. The screened in porch is a great spot to relax and listen to the sounds of nature. Need to get some work done while on vacation? The home provides wifi. Don’t forget to make some s’mores around the campfire! 

 

Water Street Retreat (sleeps 8) will be your home away from home! Located in the heart of Saugatuck, you will be close to shops, restaurants, and galleries.

 

South Haven

 

Cozy Cottage By Cottages On Wash (sleeps 10) is on a quiet street and near some farms, parks, orchards, wineries, and more. Don’t forget to schedule some time to relax on the screened in porch! Need more space? Check out the cottage’s sister property Haven Hideaway. 

 

Dale Cottage (sleeps 8) is a block away from Lake Michigan. The spacious living and dining areas are perfect for entertaining and relaxing.

 

Firefly Cottage (sleeps 8) has a covered porch making it a great relaxing destination. Just a short walk away is South Beach and downtown. Make sure to finish the day around the fire pit making s’mores! 

 

Harbours #26 (sleeps 7) is a bright and airy townhome in The Harbours Condominium Association. Minutes away from the property are parks and downtown South Haven.

 

Home Away Haven (sleeps 8) has something for everyone and is located just outside of downtown! Whether you are interested in checking out wineries, nearby attractions, or the downtown area, you’re a short distance away. Relax on the back deck with a beverage of choice or around the fire pit. 

 

North Shore #306 (sleeps 4) is right on the lake. When you stay at this condo, you’re within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the museum. Don’t forget to take in the gorgeous sunsets from the beach!

 

Quaker Street #4 (sleeps 4) overlooks the South Haven Harbor. Everything downtown South Haven has to offer is minutes away from the condo!

 

Sunchaser (sleeps 6) is a cute and cozy cottage. The home is about ½ a block from Kids Park and is close to downtown. Wanting to have a movie night? There’s a smart tv in the living room. For some relaxing time, enjoy a fire in the fire pit.

Even though fall is coming, summer is still here! Soak up the last bits of summer this Labor Day weekend on the Lakeshore. Saugatuck/Douglas

Take in stunning views of Gun Lake while staying at Channel Charmer! Designed with an open floor plan concept, there is plenty of room for up to six people. The newly redone home has room for six people and the kitchen is stocked with the basics needed to cook a homemade meal. Gather around the fire pit to relax and share stories. 

 

For a cozy getaway for two stay at Lakeside Cottage. The studio style cottage sits directly across from West Side County Park and lake access. Saugatuck and South Haven are short drives away from the property. The screened in porch is a great spot to sip a beverage and listen to the sounds of nature.

 

South Haven

 

Your vacation begins as soon as you step foot in Harbor Haven! There’s plenty of room in the home to sleep up to 12 people. The front porch is a great spot to relax or to play a friendly card game. Use the tv in the spacious living room for a movie night or enjoy the communal fire pit near the back of the home. Downtown South Haven, the Black River Marina, and the beach are close by to add extra fun during your getaway.

 

Deercreek Meadows was beautifully designed to be your home away from home! The home has lots of room for up to ten people and the wrap around patio is the perfect outdoor space for relaxing. Each bedroom has its own smart tv and the dining area has enough room to enjoy meals together. 

 

Located in Benton Harbor and conveniently located near South Haven is Evergreen Views! This lakeside retreat has room to sleep up to ten comfortably and has been designed to make you feel welcomed and relaxed. Enjoy views of the lake from the living room or head outside for some fun in the sun. Beach access, shopping, and dining are close by!

 

Spend the last bit of summer in the fully updated Liberty Haven! The vacation home sleeps up to ten guests and is located just three blocks from Lake Michigan. After a day of fun, kick back and relax around the fire pit.

 

You’ll feel at peace as soon as you pull into the driveway of Tranquility Beach House. Oak Street beach is two blocks away and downtown South Haven is close by! The cape cod style home has space for ten and the kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. Enjoy some relaxing time on the screened-in porch or gather around the fire pit. 

 

Be enchanted by the gardens, gazebo, koi ponds, and more at Ancient Oak Sanctuary. There’s room for nine in this charming home surrounded by nature. Enjoy spending time on the deck or in the hot tub. The studio building has a drum set and piano you may use. 

 

South Haven Great Lakes Getaway is the perfect location to unwind. There’s plenty of room for eight people and you’re close to downtown South Haven. Take on your family and friends with a game night in the game corner or get some work done in the second bedroom workspace (wifi is available throughout the house). South Beach is about a mile away and the fire pit makes a great spot to swap stories/memories. 

 

Located in the Harbor Club is Woodhaven Hideaway. The newly built retreat has space for eight people and has a smart tv for you to enjoy a movie night. There are multiple beach access points all within two miles of the property. About ten minutes away is downtown South Haven.

 

Home Away Haven has something for everyone including room for eight. Downtown South Haven and the beach are within a mile from the property. Enjoy a coffee or other beverages on the back deck. As the day cools off, gather around the fire pit.

 

Farmhouse charm meets costal is what you get when staying at Happy Landings! With room for eight, the home also has a built-in fire pit, gas grill, games, bikes, and a hot tub. Tram/stair access is about a ten minute walk. The home is located between South Haven and Saugatuck so there are plenty of things to do!

 

Experience the charm of a classic Victorian vacation home when you stay at For Petes Sake. There is space to sleep eight people comfortably. In the backyard you’ll find a pickleball court, a fire pit, and space to relax. The property sits three blocks away from the beach and two blocks away from downtown.

South Haven Farm Market Sept. 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th 

For fresh produce, meats, cheeses, herbs from local vendors, make sure to stop by the market at the Huron St. Pavilion on Saturdays from 8am-2pm. The market also has a variety of other goods like flowers, plants, and more.

Flea Market Sept. 7th-10th

With over 200 lots, there is something for everyone at the flea market at the Michigan Flywheelers Museum! The outdoor market will also include parades, music, auctions, demonstrations, antique engines and tractors, and more! Admission is $10 and children under 12 are free. The flea market kicks off at 8am on September 7th. 

Paw Paw Wine and Harvest Festival Sept. 8th-10th

Packed with events for families and friends of all ages, the festival is one you won’t want to miss! The fun kicks off at 9am Friday, September 8th and runs through the weekend. There will be wine tastings, kayak races, a 5k grape stomping competition, a parade, fireworks, live music, and more!

 

Saugatuck/Douglas

Crane’s CiderFest Celebration Sept. 9th

Start fall off with Crane’s CiderFest from 12pm-5pm. Take in the fall vibes with fresh cider and the apple harvest. Don’t forget about the Quad Township Pie Eating Contest! There is something for everyone at the celebration. Tickets are $15 per person.

Art in the Park Sept. 16th

Local and regional artists will showcase their work at Wick’s Park. Artwork and fine crafts will be available to purchase. Take in and purchase the art while listening to live Americana style music. The event takes place from 10am-4pm.

Fall Makers Market Sept. 23rd

Head to Guardian Brewing Company and do some shopping while enjoying a beer. Shop for great treasures, gifts, and more while supporting local artists. The market runs from 12pm-6pm.

South Haven Farm Market Wednesdays & Saturdays

Pick up some fresh produce, meats, cheese, herbs, flowers, and more at the farm market. The market features West Michigan farmers and will run through the month on Wednesdays & Saturdays from 8am-2pm.

 

The National Blueberry Festival Aug. 10th-13th

The festival takes place on the second weekend of August to celebrate the blueberry crop South Haven has each year. Featuring a craft fair, a 5k walk/run, live music, and more, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! 

 

Yoga on the Water Aug. 18th, 9am-10am

Start your morning outside along the  waterfront with some yoga. Yoga instructor Laurie Hogan-McLean will teach the class at the Michigan Maritime Museum. Admission is $10 per person at the door. 

 

The Wonder Bread Years Aug. 19th, 7:30pm

Pat Hazell will take the stage at Listiak Auditorium. The comedy show will touch on his past with nostalgic and clean humor. It’s a perfect blend of stand up comedy and theater. Doors open at 7pm and tickets start at $15. 

 

Rock the Boat Aug. 25th, 6:30pm-9:30pm

Get ready to rock! Michigan Maritime Museum will be hosting the 2nd annual concert with the 80’s cover band “The 1985”. Proceeds from the event will go to the museum. Food will be available on site and there will be a cash bar serving alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Don’t forget to dress accordingly for the weather as the event will take place rain or shine! Tickets start at $15 online.

Jersey Boys Aug. 11th – Sept. 3rd

Tony and Grammy award winning Jersey Boys takes you behind the scenes and music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The musical tells the true story of the four young men who became a musical symbol of a generation. Douglas Dutchers Vintage Base Ball Club Game Aug. 12th, 2pm

Cheer on the Douglas Dutchers as they take on the South Haven Bark Peelers! Sporting events have taken place on Beery Field since the 1860s and the club was formed to promote historical education in the community through a vintage setting.

 

Annual Sidewalk & Studio Sale Aug. 17th, 9am-5pm

Sponsored by the Saugatuck Douglas Area Business Association, the one-day sale will be held in downtown Saugatuck on Butler, Hoffman, and Mason Streets. Local shops will take to the streets to sell clothing, jewelry, art, and more with marked down prices!

 

Summer Sounds at Waypost Brewing Co Aug. 26th, 1pm-9pm 

Enjoy some live music and craft beer on the patio at Waypost Brewing Co. The Clarke, Reed, & Meadows trio will play at 1pm and The Bart Attacks will go on later in the afternoon. Tastebudz food truck will be onsite serving up some tasty food.

Boho Chateau has plenty of space for you and 11 others to spread out and relax. Take in the amazing views of the lake from the front deck. Grill out in the backyard on the spacious patio. Be sure to leave room for dessert  while taking it easy around the fire pit! You’re just steps away from South Beach, Kid’s Corner, bike trails, and downtown. 

 

Bonjour SoHa has room to accommodate 15 people. A few houses away is the neighborhood pool. The beach and downtown are a short walk from the property and the neighborhood is adjacent to the VanBuren Trail. 

 

Cozy Cottage is a part of the Cottages on Wash association. The cottage has room for ten and can be rented with Haven Hideaway to accommodate larger groups. Access points to the beach and downtown are close by to the property. 

 

SoHa Beach Retreats is perfect for large gatherings of up to 14. The beach retreat is steps away from Lake Michigan. On the deck you’ll find a hot tub and gas grill. The Kal-Haven Trail and downtown are close by making this a great place to make lots of memories.

 

Twilight Ridge has room to sleep up to 12 in this beautifully maintained ranch home. Sit back, relax and enjoy the lake views as well as the beautiful sunsets. Located in the heart of South Haven, you’ll have access to downtown, the riverfront, and the public beaches.

65 Bluff Drive is ready to be your home away from home. Comfortably sleep up to eight in this spacious contemporary home. Relax with a beverage/snack and take in the views from the porches. When you stay here, you’re steps away from private beach access.

 

Dale Cottage is a spacious vacation home with room for eight people. Numerous beach access points are close by from this charming rental. 

 

Ground Floor Getaway sleeps six comfortably. You’re in the perfect location being close to downtown and the beach. On-site amenities include two movie theaters, exercise room, fire pit, and year round indoor/outdoor pool.

 

Happy Landings has the farmhouse coastal charm. With plenty of room for eight people, you’ll be making memories as soon as you step foot in the house. During your stay use the built-in fire pit, gas grill, hot tub, and bike. The tram/stair access point to the beach is just a short walk away. 

 

Haven Hideaway by Cottages on Wash is in the perfect location for your next getaway. With room to accommodate six people, the cottage is one block from the 1st Street Beach access. There are multiple other beach access points close by too! After a fun filled day, relax in the private backyard or on the screened in porch. If you need more space, check out the sister property Cozy Cottage. 

 

Hydrangea Haven is steps away from the private association beach access. This lovely contemporary vacation home has room to accommodate eight. The beautiful landscaping around the home gives that perfect feel of a vacation home. Sit out on the front deck and let the sound of the waves take you into a state of relaxation. 

 

Shady Nook will melt your worries away as soon as you step foot in this cute vacation home. There’s space for up to eight people and the kitchen is stocked with all of the essentials including seating for everyone. Spend your evenings relaxing by the fire pit. Take a 10 minute walk and you’ll find the “blue stairs” that take you down to the beach!

 

Sunchaser is a cute and cozy cottage with room for six. Located not far from the beach, this is a perfect place to make summer memories. The front yard has gorgeous views of Lake Michigan and the backyard has a gas grill, Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit.

Little Grey Cottage has an abundance of space for up to 10 people. When it’s time to relax, enjoy some quiet time on one of the two porches or in the hammock in the backyard. The cottage is right in the middle of Douglas with a 10 minute walk to downtown. You’ll also be within walking distance to Douglas Beach! 

 

Fields of Fennville will have you feeling right at home as soon as you walk in. The ranch style home sleeps up to six and sits on five acres. Beach access is close by and the property is in the middle of Saugatuck and South Haven.

 

Hidden Ravine is newly remodeled, professionally decorated, and has plenty of room for up to six people. Relax by the stone fireplace or head outside and relax on the deck or by the fire pit. You’re just a quick walk or bike ride away from Douglas Beach. Downtown Saugatuck/Douglas are minutes away as well as Oval Beach. 

 

In The Trees is nestled on a wooded lot and a great place for six people to enjoy a vacation together. Steps away from the house is Lake Michigan and beach access is about a three minute walk away. When it’s time to unwind in the evening, use the hot tub, lay in the hammock, or gather by the firepit. 

 

Lakeside Cottage is the perfect getaway for two. The studio style cottage is stocked with the necessities to have a great vacation. Sit on the screened in porch and let the sound of the waves of Lake Michigan take you into a state of relaxation. Lake access is right across the street while Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven are short drives away. 

 

Lucky Penny is perfect for a cozy getaway for up to four people. If you want to bring more people, there is a camper/rv hookup on the property. The property sits in the middle of Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven. Ready for a beach day? The public lake access point is about a mile away. 

 

Piccolo Cottage is great for a cozy getaway for four people. The cottage is quaint and full of character giving it the name “Piccolo”. The patio and sunroom are perfect for taking it easy and the beach is a short walk away! Downtown Douglas or Saugatuck is a quick bike or car ride away.
