The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer. The unofficial kickoff to summer is fast approaching. Whether you’re staying in South Haven or Saugatuck/Douglas, there’s plenty to do during the Memorial Day weekend. To help make planning a little easier, we’ve compiled a list of some fun things to do.

 

South Haven 

On Friday, May 26th, check out the Blessing of the Fleet/Season Kickoff Celebration at the Michigan Maritime Museum. Festivities kick off with the annual Blessing of the Fleet. South Haven harbor boats, Tallship Friends of Good Will, and Museum vessels will participate in the ceremony. Make sure to stick around after the ceremony for a fish fry! Tickets are available online and at the event. Lakeshore Antique Tractor Pullers will have their first official pull of the season on Saturday, May 27th. The event will take place at the Michigan Flywheelers Museum with the first hook starting at noon. Taking place on Saturday, May 27th and Sunday, May 28th is the Auto Interests 14th Annual Memorial Day Weekend HPDE. Spectators get free admission but must register in advance. The course will run in a clockwise direction on Saturday and a counter clockwise direction on Sunday. Make sure to swing by the South Haven Farm Market on Saturday, May 27th for some cookout essentials. At the market you’ll find a nice variety of fresh produce, meats, cheese, flowers, and more! The Market will be open from 8am-2pm

Saugatuck/Douglas 

The Red Horse Porch Party is taking place on Saturday, May 27th. The event will have live music, an art auction, food and drink, and horses. Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Day of tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids. Kick off the start of summer at Waypost Brewing Co. It’s an adult field day with the release of Field Beer, lawn games and party chickens! Tastebudz food truck will be onsite. Featuring hundreds of quality dealers in every field of collectibles and antiques, Allegan Antiques Market will take place on Sunday, May 27th from 8am-4pm. Admission is $5 and parking is free. The exhibitors have a large variety of antiques specializing in pottery, glass, china, advertising, jewelry, and more. This is a must attend event for an antique lover. Kick off Memorial Day with Saugatuck’s Memorial Day Parade at 9am. The parade is sponsored by The American Legion and starts at Culver Street. Also happening on Memorial Day, is Douglas’ Memorial Day Parade. The parade will kick off at 10 am and start at Lake Vista SuperValu. It will then proceed down Center Street to Beery Field.
